Hello everyone,

I just wanted to make a brief post about step downs. I was originally going to post this in the admin section, but this gets a lot more traffic, and I am also going to sticky this so it is easy to reference, because this has been a developing trend for the last year or two. This is regarding stepping down due to activity / being overwhelmed - not if you suddenly develop a sour taste for SG or something.

If you are holding a rank and considering stepping down - please, please, please consider it several times before actually pulling the trigger. We will usually ask you multiple times if you are sure, and encourage you to take a week or two to think about it. There are multiple reasons why we do this - but the biggest one is because the majority of people who step down are the same people who want to come back a short while later.

SA's / A's...you can pretty much go AFK for as long as you need. Do what you need to do, keep us relatively informed every so often so we at least know not to demote you because you simply dropped off the Earth. There is almost no reason for an SA / A to step down because they're going to be a little busy - take a break any time you want...if it is going to be longer than a week, just let us know. There are admins stepping down because they're going to be busy for a month or something...that's just absurd lol. Just go do your thing.

Higher ups...if you're going to be AFK, just let us know. If you are a good person, we will do everything we can to keep you. I get the mentality of 'Well, I'm not going to be around, it's not fair for me to hold this rank.' Yes and no. If you give us ample heads up, it allows us to possibly promote another person to work alongside you or even to take over for the time being. I cannot promise you that we will keep you on - IE if you know you're going away for like 3-4 months, we probably could not accommodate that, and a step down makes sense. But if you need some time off for whatever reason, just let someone know so we can figure out the best course of action.

It just makes no sense to me that people step down and then ask to come back so quickly after. Just let someone know you want to take a break from SG, and we can come up with a plan to work without you. If you're an SA / A, it's not remotely a big deal for you to take a break. For a higher up, it just takes some time drafting a plan for the duration of your absence. If you truly want to stay at SG, yet real-life is getting in the way for a bit, just let us know. We will do our best to accommodate.
