Earlier i received my 5.1 speakers that i had ordered (logitech x-530)

plugged in all the cables, 2 front are working, center is working and so is the SW

but the 2 rears wont work.

figured it would have something to do with my soundcard since my comp is like 3 years old or so

my sound card is vinyl ac '97 or at least i think thats it..

thats the driver im using

its not a big problem, but id like for them to all work, even if it doesnt im sure ill get by with stereo, just want to make sure that they dont work on my comp before i pack them away

The drivers you downloaded, http://www.download.com/VIA-Vinyl-AC-97-Codec-Combo-Driver/3000-2120_4-10163027.html are for onboard audio I believe (built into your motherboard). If you have a separate sound card, these shouldn't be the proper drivers for it.

One thing to check that might make a difference is your audio settings, and what sound source it is set to (Headphones, two desktop speakers, 5.1, 7.1, etc.):

Get to that menu this way if you don't know how. Click on control panel and select it from that window.

New soundcard wouldn't hurt. Are you sure you set up the wiring correctly?

well i just checked and it looks like i fucked up

well the green went in the green and red in red, but the last one was a black one and the last 'hole' that it would fit in on my comp was blue, guess i didnt notice the colors ^^

thats the problem then, right :001_unsure:?

Did some research and heres what i found.

my motherboard http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1764

says it supports 6 channels

when testing the speakers, all will work but the 2 rears, but when i play something only the front 2 and the SW will play while the 2 rears and center will buzz and make noise. sometimes the center will play aswell.

besides the line in being blue and the rears cable being black i dno what im doing wrong :/

so i guess i either need an adapter for the blue line in to the black rear or an external sound card ? (no way in hell ill buy internal lol)

Just make sure that the back of your soundcard/computer has jacks that say rear (black), front (green), and center/sub (orange). The pinkish/red is mic in. If you're not sure what you have, look in your motherboard manual or soundcard manual.

I'm using the x-540 which has "matrix" mode, which converts stereo to surround, and does a great job, though not real surround. I'm going to upgrade to the Z-5500 probably around holiday season.
