Well, Pentium D's just aren't what they used to be anymore, so I've decided to finally upgrade to an AMD Quad Core:

Here's the motherboard I plan on getting with it as well:

Just wanted to know what you guys think of these two items. I think they're great for the price, and the reviews are pretty decent. Let me know what you all think. :001_smile:

It's probably best to steer clear of AMD in favour of an Intel Core 2 at the moment, unless you're a serious fan boy. :001_tt2:

Maybe something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036 ?

Or if you have your heart set on a quad-core, Subzero's recommendation is a good one for that price range. (Note the OEM version is $10 cheaper)

The AMD Phenom 9950 beats the C2Q Q6600 in the majority of benchmark tests. It's also a proper quad core if I remember correctly, unlike the C2Q which is two dual cores tacked together.

The next iteration of the C2Q will obviously beat the 9950, but the price point will be higher. So as far as bang for the buck goes, the 9950 wins here.

I don't know if it's still the case, but the 780g has had trouble powering 125w chips. Any particular reason why you're going with a mATX board? I hope you're not planning on gaming with the integrated graphics. The 780g is the equivalent of an HD3450 and can even run crossfire with it, but by no means do they compare to even a modest $50 graphic card.
