It is fun, especially when you have a lot of people on the server building bases, raiding people, raiding sleeper bases (people who are offline), looting and surviving, blowing up other people's bases, defending your own base from other players, etc.

Once you get a decent amount of people constantly playing on the server and some friends in a group it becomes a pretty enjoyable experience. While the game is still early access, they've got a really solid development team pushing updates every 1-2 weeks with new content, optimizations, fixes, etc.
